Parenting is undeniably one of life's most challenging roles. While the saying goes that it takes a village to raise a child, finding that supportive community can be elusive. If you have been navigating the ups and downs of parenting and feeling isolated in doing so, I'm here to provide support. Offering a compassionate listening ear, I share tips, tricks, and tools to help you navigate the daily challenges of parenthood. This involves fostering self-awareness and self-compassion, both for yourself and your child. Let's embark on a journey to rediscover your love for yourself and strengthen the bonds within your family.

Anxiety

Do you find yourself waking up with a heaviness in your chest, dreading the day ahead? Are you grappling with an invisible weight that defies explanation, accompanied by a persistent knot in your stomach? These could be somatic symptoms linked to anxiety. Anxiety, a vital aspect of life, serves the purpose of keeping us safe. However, our primitive central nervous system sometimes reacts to perceived threats or danger, that aren't as overtly threatening to our life as our nervous system thinks it is. In my work with clients, I delve beneath the surface layer of anxiety to uncover the triggers affecting their nervous system.

Depression

Have you found yourself wanting to stay in bed all day? Has this feeling persisted for more than just a few days? Distinguishing between a day of relaxation and depression involves recognizing overwhelming sadness, a loss of motivation for daily tasks, changes in appetite, and alterations in sleep patterns. In the winter months in NY, the reduced sunlight can contribute to depressive symptoms. Some people experience seasonal depression, while others grapple with persistent depression. In therapy, we can delve into the underlying causes of your depressive symptoms and understand how our bodies signal us to "slow down." Through this exploration, we can develop daily coping skills to rekindle motivation and enhance your overall quality of life.

Stress

Stress commonly manifests as a blend of depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and a sense of feeling overwhelmed. These elements can propel us to override our body's signals to slow down or, potentially even, bring us to a complete halt, disrupting our daily functioning. In therapy, we can differentiate between typical stress-related symptoms and the enduring impacts of chronic stress. Additionally, we'll investigate strategies to both cope with and prevent the long-term somatic symptoms associated with excessive stress affecting our bodies.

Life Transitions

The only constant in life is change. Whether it's the transition from high school to college, embarking on a new job, starting a family, or navigating various expected life changes, change is inevitable. While we often associate extra support with challenging transitions like divorce, loss of a loved one, or job loss, every change, whether positive or challenging, brings forth excitement, anxiety, unexpected grief, and uncertainty. Navigating through these emotions is essential, and during the therapeutic process, we can delve into how your body processes these feelings. There are moments in life when we may feel stuck, and it is during these times that we can explore areas where you are ready to experience growth and embrace positive change.

Play Therapy

“ Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” Fred Rogers. As children, we lack the emotional regulation and vocabulary necessary to effectively process all experiences, often resulting in what society labels as 'problem behaviors.' In my role as a certified play therapist, I perceive time in the playroom as a child's exploration of self in its most unfiltered forms. Within this designated space, children have the freedom to guide the therapist through their world without inhibition. This unique experience enables children to process and start comprehending their emotions from a different perspective.

Adolescent therapy

The period of adolescence and emerging adulthood, spanning from ages 12 to 24, is characterized by significant growth and the challenges that go along with it. Alongside emotional and cognitive development, there arises the challenge of managing daily expectations related to academics, peers, family, and sports, all of which can be emotionally draining. My therapeutic approach is to shift focus towards the superpowers and joys inherent in this phase of life. Recognizing the common reports of disconnect and disagreements between parents and adolescents, my aim is to facilitate a softening and reconnection, fostering a smoother transition through this challenging and often confusing period.

Intake session/subsequent sessions:
Individual $160/$150
Minors (under age 13) $100/$90

Payment is due at the time of service. A credit/debit/HSA card can be stored on file for ease of transactions.

Out of network and Courtesy Billing:
To ensure ease and understanding of out of network benefits, I provide insurance
benefit checks and I will submit the insurance claim so that you don’t have to!
I will provide you with a simple information form to complete upon initial inquiry.
With this information, I will know how much of the out of pocket session cost will be
reimbursed to you, by your insurance company. With high deductibles, you may be
responsible for a few session costs, before reimbursement begins.
